General Information
The Whitehead's Trogon is a species of bird in the Trogonidae family.

Physical Description
The Whitehead's Trogon is a moderately sized bird. It has a red head with bronze on its upperparts and tail with dark grey on the wings. The breast is red as well and there is a distinct white patch under the chin. Its eyes are beady black and the beak is a blue-black color.

Diet
Trogons feed on insects and fruit. Their broad bills and weak legs reflect their diet and arboreal habits. Although their flight is fast, they are reluctant to fly any distance to find food.

Habitat
The Whitehead Trogon is found in Indonesia and Malaysia. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist mountainous areas. It is continuously threatened by habitat loss from agriculture and colonization.

Reproduction
The word "trogon" is Greek for "nibbling" and refers to the fact that these birds gnaw holes into trees in order to make their nests. White or pastel, colored eggs are laid in the nesting holes or termite nests.
